Women's Tennis Edged by Lesley

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team fell 5-4 to Lesley University Monday afternoon in non-conference action at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

With the defeat, the Colonels fall to 0-2 on the young season.

Curry took the early lead when junior Cayla Osowski (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore Cate Pierce (Melrose, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-6 win at third doubles to open the scoring, but Lesley won at first and second doubles to take the lead into singles play.

The teams split the six singles matches to give Lesley the win on the afternoon. Pierce won her match 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles to complete a sweep on the day, while senior Sasha Borkov (Newton, Mass.) won in a tiebreaker at first singles for Curry. For the second match in a row, junior Grace Coopee (Hampden, Mass.) got the job done at fourth singles, knocking off her opponent 6-3, 6-0.

Curry will return to action at home on Saturday, taking on Salem State University. First serves in doubles play are slated for 12 p.m.
