Women's Tennis Topples Thomas

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team took down Thomas College 8-1 Friday afternoon in Curry's home opener at the Trent J. Scott Tennis Courts.

With the victory, Curry improves to 2-2 overall on the season, while Thomas falls to 3-4.

The Colonels controlled doubles play on the afternoon to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the early going. At first doubles, Alexandra Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and Serena Wilson (Windsor, Conn.) picked up the clean sweep with an 8-0 win to open the day, followed by an 8-2 win at third doubles from freshman Grace Coopee (Hampden, Mass.) and junior Lily Turner-Burrell (West Rutland, Vt.). At second doubles, freshmen Cayla Osowski (Westfield, Mass.) and Samantha Ferrara (Brewster, N.Y.) came from behind for a dramatic 8-5 win.

Curry got two quick wins once singles play got underway to clinch the victory. Borkov didn't drop a single set in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles to extend the lead to 4-0, before Turner-Burrell won 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles to secure the win. Curry would also get singles wins from Coopee, Ferrara, and Wilson.

Thomas picked up its lone win on the day at third singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win from Riley Pierce.

Curry will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Suffolk University for a 10 a.m. CCC showdown on Saturday morning.
