BRIGHTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's tennis team fell 7-2 to Simmons University in its season opener Monday afternoon at the Daly Field Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Curry falls to 0-1 on the young season.
At first singles, a back and forth battle finished in favor of Simmons. The Curry tandem of Alexandra Borkov (Newton, Mass.) and Serena Wilson (Windsor, Conn.) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage, but Simmons rallied to win the match 8-6.
At first singles, Borkov got back on track with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory to get the Colonels on the board. Wilson took care of her match at second singles as well, winning 6-2, 6-2. Simmons got the victory at third singles to clinch the match, as Curry freshman Cayla Osowski (Westfield, Mass.) suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat.
The Colonels were playing shorthanded due to a handful of injuries, and were forced to concede five of the nine head-to-head matchups.
Curry will be back on the court next Monday with a road matchup at Eastern Nazarene College. First serves are slated for 3:30 p.m.
