Women's Tennis Earns 6-3 Triumph Over Wentworth to Start Season

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team earned a win in their 2021 debut, posting a 6-3 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.

The Colonels (1-0 overall, 1-0 CCC) started out the match by winning two of three doubles points and then sealed the victory with four points in singles action. Freshman Alexandra Borkov (Newton, Mass.), sophomore Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.), senior Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.), and junior Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.) each picked up wins in both singles and doubles.

Borkov and Wiernusz teamed up to produce an 8-7 (7-5) win at No. 1 doubles while Daigle and playing partner Connors picked up an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 spot. The third doubles point was won by Wentworth by default.

Curry claimed victories at the four three singles positions, all in straight sets. Borkov was a winner by 6-1, 6-2 final over senior Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) at the top spot. Wiernusz and Daigle posted 6-2, 6-1 triumphs at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively. Connors prevailed over senior CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4. The Leopards took the No. 5 and 6 singles points by default to close out the match.

Curry will next travel to Endicott College on Wednesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m. Wentworth heads to Gordon College on Thursday, April 1 for a match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
