Women’s Tennis Faces Defeat as Spring Break Begins

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to McMurry by a score of 9-0 on Monday morning. The match was the Colonels' first of three on their 2020 Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla. Following the match, the War Hawks improve to 7-4 on the 2019-20 season, while the Colonels fall to 0-17.

McMurry kicked off the day by earning points in all three doubles matches. At first doubles, Gabrielle Ellwanger (Magnolia, Texas) and Neah Garza (Abilene, Texas) downed Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) by a score of 8-1. The War Hawks took second and third doubles by default.

During singles play, McMurry remained just as dominant. At first, Claire Hillyer (Borger, Texas) beat Wiernusz 6-0, 6-1. At second, Morgan Parnell (Big Spring, Texas) topped Daigle 6-1, 6-3. Emily Nuttall earned the win at third over Kayla Connors (Brockton, Mass.), 6-2, 6-1. The War Hawks completed the sweep by taking fourth, fifth, and sixth singles by default.

The Colonels will get back on the court tomorrow, March 10, for a 6:30 p.m. match against Brevard, remaining in Orlando. The War Hawks will also resume play in the Sunshine State tomorrow, taking on the College of St. Scholastica at 7:00 p.m.
