Women's Tennis Falls to Salem State, 8-1, in Non-Conference Action

SALEM, MASS. – Salem State swept doubles play and took seven-of-eight singles matches enroute to an 8-1 victory over the Curry Colonels on Monday afternoon at the Central Campus Tennis Courts. The Vikings improve to 1-1 on the year while Curry remains winless at 0-4.

Madeline Allaire (Columbus, Ohio)/Meredith Macdonald (Lynn, Mass.) earned an 8-3 win at first doubles over Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine)/April Miller (Newton, N.H). Ann Spence (Attleboro, Mass.)/Jackie Garvey (Melrose, Mass.) won 8-4 over Alexis Mclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass./Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) at second doubles while Kristin Klimowicz (Ipswich, Mass.)/Liana Angelis earned an 8-6 victory at third doubles to complete the sweep.

Allaire picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at first singles over Cash-Sortwell while Meredith Macdonald defeated Miller 6-4, 6-4 at third doubles. Mclea-Perry picked up the only point for the Colonels with a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles.

Klimowicz, Garvey and Angelis all won in straight sets in fourth through sixth singles respectively.

The Colonels are on the road on Wednesday, September 13 when they travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina in a 3:30 p.m. match. (Match recap courtesy of Salem State Sports Information)
