MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Johnson & Wales, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonels fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 1-0 overall.
The Wildcats swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.
JWU No. 1 singles player, Nina Cohen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) won her match 6-3, 6-0 against Sidara Cash-Sortwell (Portland, Maine). The Wildcat's No. 2 singles player Taylor Klein (Medellin, Columbia) claimed her tilt verse Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Alexis Mclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.) was bested by Lauren Torre (New Fairfield, Conn.), 6-2, 6-0. Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.) earned the No. 4 singles win for JWU, 6-0, 6-0 by defeating Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.). Wildcat's Madison Hernandez (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over April Miller (Newton, N.H.) and at the No. 6 position Holly Olson (Mukwonago, Wisc.) defeated Curry's Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine), 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, the No.1 pair Cohen and Macchirole earned an 8-0 victory over the Colonels Harrington and Mclea-Perry. The No. 2 duo of Hernandez and Olson bested Curry's Cash-Sortwell and Miller, 8-0. In the final match on the day, No.3 Wildcat's doubles partners, Ashley Hartford (Howell, Mich.) and Gabriele Velazquez (La Romana, DR.) outlasted Merrill and Leblanc, 8-2.
The Colonels return to action on Thursday, September 7 at 3:30 when they host CCC opponent Eastern Nazarene.
