MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Johnson & Wales, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Friday afternoon. With the loss the Colonels fall to 0-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 1-0 overall.
The Wildcats swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.
JWU No. 1 singles player, Morgan Thompson (Fargo, ND) won her match 6-0, 6-1 against Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.). The Wildcat's No. 2 singles player Nina Cohen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) claimed her tilt verse Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) was bested by Luiza Simoes (Cuiaba, Brazil), 6-0, 6-0. Taylor Klein (Medellin, Columbia) earned the No. 4 singles win for JWU, 6-0, 6-0 by defeating Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.). The Wildcat's Lauren Torre (New Fairfield, Conn.) earned 6-1, 6-0 wins over Alex Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and at the No. 6 position Ashley Hartford (Howell, Mich.) defeated Curry's Taylor Johnson (Abington, Mass.), 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, the No.1 pair Thompson and Simoes earned an 8-1 victory over the Colonels Hardy and Prete. The No. 2 duo of Cohen and Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.) bested Curry's Ferris and Harrington, 8-1. In the final match on the day, No.3 Wildcat's doubles partners, Holly Olson (Mukwonago, Wisc.) and Madison Hernandez (Phoenix, Ariz.) outlasted Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn. ) and Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.), 8-1.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday, September 3 at 12:00 when they host CCC opponent Western New England. The Wildcats return to action on Thursday, September 8, when they host Regis College in a 2:00 match.
