Women's Tennis Falls to CCC Rival Roger Williams University, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Roger Williams University, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Saturday afternoon.  With the win the Hawks improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the CCC, while the Colonels fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the CCC.

The Hawks swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.

Roger Williams No. 1 singles player, Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) won her match 6-1, 6-0 against Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.).  The Hawks No. 2 singles player Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) claimed her tilt verse Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) , 6-1, 6-2. The Roger Williams pair also won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-0 over Love and Prete.

In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine) was bested by Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0. Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.) earned the No. 4 singles win for Roger Williams, 6-0, 6-0 by defeating Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.). The Hawks Ali Stankiewicz  (Brunswick, Maine) earned 6-0, 6-0 wins over Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.) and at the No. 6 position Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) defeated Curry's Gabriella Tedeschi (East Greenwich, R.I.) 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the No. 2 duo of Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.) and Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) bested the Colonels Riley and Harrington, 8-1.  In the final match on the day, No.3 Hawks doubles partners, Stankiewicz and Riley outlasted Rosaria Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) and Tedeschi, 8-0.

The Colonels return to action on Monday, September 7 at 3:30 when they travel to Salem State.  The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 8, when they host CCC opponent Western New England for a 4:00 match.
