Women's Tennis Blanks Mount Ida, 9-0

NEWTON, Mass. -- Curry College scored a 9-0 victory over host Mount Ida College in non-conference women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Mount Ida Tennis Courts.

Mount Ida, still seeking their first victory of the season, got a strong effort from Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.), who played well at first singles, but fell 8-1 to Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.).

Each singles and doubles match in this contest was played as an eight-game pro-set.

The Colonels took the three points at doubles to start the match, with the Mustangs' third doubles team of Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.) and Alicia Ritchie (Andover, Conn.) able to take a game off of Molly Louis (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.).

Louis played at the second singles position and swept Jessica Cavcali, while Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) also dispatched Elizabeth Wood in eight games at the third singles spot.

Wood paired with Victoria Messinger (Southbury, Conn.) at the second doubles spot but fell to Chuha and Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.).

Prete picked up a point by beating Alexus Elder (Taunton, Mass.) 8-0 at fifth singles, while Rhodes beat Messinger by the same score in the sixth position.

The Mustangs will return to Great Northeast Athletic Confernece (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon when they host Anna Maria for a 12:00 pm showdown.

Curry College (6-3) hits the road again tomorrow, travelling to Rhode Island College for another non-league match. (Match recap courtesy of Mount Ida Sports Information)
