Women's Tennis Earns First Conference Win of the Season Defeating Salve Regina, 8-1

MILTON, Mass. - Junior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and classmate Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) won both their singles and doubles matches as the Curry women's tennis team earned their first Commonwealth Coast Conference win of the season with an 8-1 victory over Salve Regina University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Colonels are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCC. The Seahawks fell to 2-2 overall and are also 1-1 in the CCC.

Mulrooney captured the number one singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over junior Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, Mass.), while Mongello defeated her opponent, junior Elizabeth Liguori (Westerly, R.I.),1-6, 7-6, 10-7 at number two.  The duo was victorious in their doubles match with an 8-0 decision at number one over sophomores Meg Olson (Colchester, Vt.) and Elizabeth DiFilippo (West Chester, Pa.). Curry won all three of their doubles matches in the event and took five out of six singles matches.

Salve Regina scored its only point when senior Karlee Walther (Natick, Mass.) posted a 7-5, 6-0, victory at number four singles against junior Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.).

The Colonels return to action on September 18, when they host Colby-Sawyer in a 4:00 p.m. match.  The Seahawks host CCC opponent, Endicott College, on September 13 in a 3:30 p.m. match.
