Women's Tennis Earns First Victory of the Season, Defeating Rhode Island College, 7-2

MILTON, Mass. - Junior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) and classmate Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) won both their singles and doubles matches as the Curry women's tennis team earned their first win of the season with a 7-2 victory over Rhode Island College, Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels are now 1-0 overall. The Anchormen drop to 0-1 on the season.

Mulrooney captured the number one singles match with a 6-0, 7-5 win, while Mongello defeated her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at number two.  The duo was victorious in their doubles match with an 8-4 decision at number one. Curry won all three doubles matches in the event.

Rhode Island College scored its only points when freshman Tressa Cannata (Cranston, R.I.) posted a 6-2, 6-3, victory at number four singles and sophomore Janice Wang (Branchburg, N.J.) won at number five singles, 7-5, 7-5.

The Colonels return to action on September 5, when they travel to Holy Cross for a 5:00 p.m. match.  The Anchormen travel to Emmanuel on September 4.
