Rush Wins Super Tie Breaker as Women's Tennis Slips Past Johnson & Wales, 5-4

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College defeated Johnson & Wales by the score of 5-4, in women's tennis action Friday afternoon in Milton.
 
The host Colonels swept all three doubles matches. Curry's Emily Mongello (Milton, Mass.) and Allison Curtis (Moorestown, N.J.) knocked off Stephanie Piperis (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.), 8-3, at #1; Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) and Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) defeated the Wildcats', D'Arcy Brunelle (Woonsockett, R.I.) and Gabrielle Longo  (Philadelphia, Pa.), 8-1, at #2 and Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) and Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) took care of Ansley Sego (Naperville, Ill.) and Tammy Saunders (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), 8-4, at #3.

Curry's Kathleen Rush (Waterbury, Conn.) was the deciding factor in the win as she won a super set tie breaker against Liz Sammelbraun (Evanston, Ill.) 4-6, 7-6, 8-6, 10-7 at #5. Curtis at #3 was the second singles winner for the Colonels when she knocked off Johnson & Wales, Dana Trimborn (North Wales, Pa.), 6-3, 6-4.
 
The win improves Curry's record to 3-0 overall. The loss drops Johnson & Wales to 0-1 overall. Curry returns to action on September 10, when it hosts Wentworth at 12:00 p.m. The Wildcats' travel to Rhode Island College on September 13, for a 4:00 p.m. match.
