Women's Soccer Draws with UNE in Rainy Homecoming Affair

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team played the University of New England to a 1-1 draw Saturday evening in a rainy Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the draw, Curry moves to 3-6-7 overall on the season and 1-3-3 in the CCC.

The Nor'easters wasted little time finding the game's first marker, striking just 2:14 into the match to take an early 1-0 advantage. UNE would take 14 corner kicks in the first half, but did not find the back of the net on any of them and the teams headed to the locker room at 1-0.

Just 2:03 into the second half, Curry found the equalizer was senior Madison Frye (Abington, Mass.) blasted a shot short side high past the leaping UNE goalkeeper to level the match at 1-1. Classmate Maddie Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) assisted on Frye's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Neither team would score in the remainder of the game, and both teams secured a single point in the CCC standings.

Curry sophomore netminder Lexi Smardon (Scotland, Conn.) made six saves for the hosts in the draw. She moves to 1-1-2 on the season with the result.

Next up for the Colonels, they will wrap up the regular season at home on Tuesday night with a CCC clash with Wentworth. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
