Women's Soccer Cruises Past Suffolk

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team used a trio of first half goals to knock off Suffolk University 3-1 in its Homecoming game Saturday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the victory, Curry improves to 9-4-1 overall on the season and 4-1-1 in CCC action.

The Colonels opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) capitalized on a Suffolk handball inside the box. The junior stepped up the penalty spot and made no mistake, burying the PK into the bottom left corner of the net to put Curry ahead 1-0.

Just over three minutes later, Colonel senior McKenna Reid (Irvine, Calif.) notched her first goal of the season on a free kick from distance, stretching Curry's advantage to 2-0.

With under a minute to go in the opening half, graduate student Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.), who surpassed 50 career points in a Curry uniform in her team's win over Roger Williams on Tuesday, notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season to put the Colonels ahead 3-0 heading to the break.

Suffolk got on the board on a penalty kick in the 80th minute to avoid being blanked, but could not close the gap any further. Sophomore Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) made five of her six saves in the second 45 minutes to preserve her ninth victory of the season.

Next up for the Colonels, they will continue their three-match homestand with a crucial CCC battle with Endicott on Wednesday afternoon. Kick-off from Katz Field is slated for 4 p.m.
