Women's Soccer Surges Past UMass Dartmouth

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team used a five-goal first half explosion to down UMass Dartmouth by a final score of 5-1 Saturday in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, Curry improves to 3-2-0 overall and hands the Corsairs their first loss, as they dip to 2-1-0.

The Colonels wasted no time getting on the board, as sophomore Kiera Lindmark (Norfolk, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season just 32 seconds in on a chip shot from the right side of the box. Graduate student Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

In the 26th minute, Curry extended its lead to two on the second goal of the season from junior Shannon Folan (Hudson, Mass.), and just 2:35 later Curry stretched it to three on a Borges tally.

After UMass Dartmouth scored on a free kick in the 35th minute, Curry had a quick answer when Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) strike in the 38th minute. It would take just 46 seconds for the Colonels to stretch their lead to 5-1, when Natalie Keenan (Haverhill, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal.

With the game safely in hand for the Colonels, neither team found the back of the net in the second half, as Curry secured its third win of the season.

Curry netminder Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) earned the win in goal, making five saves in just over 73 minutes of action. Freshman keeper Lexi Smardon (Scotland, Conn.) closed out the game in net for Curry, but was not forced to make a save.

Next up for the Colonels, they will make the short trip to Simmons for a Wednesday night matchup with the Sharks. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
