Women's Soccer Blanks Maine Maritime

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's soccer team earned its first home victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, taking down Maine Maritime Academy 2-0 in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-1-0 overall on the season, while Maine Maritime moves to 0-1-1.

Curry scored a goal in each half to secure the win. Graduate student Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) broke the ice in the 23rd minute when she netted her third goal of the season to give Curry a 1-0 lead. Borges took a feed from junior Sydney Resendes (Coventry, R.I.) and beat the goalie to the left, kissing a shot off the post and into the net.

The first collegiate goal from junior Shannon Folan (Hudson, Mass.) in the 72nd minute put the game firmly out of reach. Senior McKenna Reid (Irvine, Calif.) headed a ball forward to Folan in the left side of the box, who spun and beat the keeper on the short side for her first goal as a Colonel.

In net, sophomore Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) earned her first shutout of the season with a three-save effort. The Mariners tested her until the finish, as Correa was forced to make her third and final save off of a free kick with three seconds remaining, but the sophomore handled it with ease to secure the win.

Next up for the Colonels, they will take to the road to face Wheaton College on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
