Women's Soccer Sinks Mariners

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team rebounded from a tough Saturday loss by defeating Mitchell College 6-0 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, Curry snaps a three-match losing skid and improves to 4-5-0 on the season. Mitchell drops to 2-5-1.

Curry's offense got to work right from the outset, as sophomore Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) headed home a McKenna Reid (Irvine, Calif.) corner kick just 2:20 into the contest to put Curry on top 1-0. In the next 4:02, Curry would score two more goals two take a three-goal lead less than seven minutes into the game. Senior Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Nacelia Juarez (Norco, Calif.) notched the early markers for Curry, with assists credited to Brooke Bonneau (East Hampton, Conn.), Brooke Sullivan (Berkley, Mass.), and Shannon Folan (Hudson, Mass.).

Bonneau and sophomore Lexi LaPerle (Gales Ferry, Conn.) also scored in the first half for Curry to put the Colonels ahead 5-0 going to the break. Freshman Kiera Lindmark (Norfolk, Mass.) recorded an assist on the Bonneau goal.

Lindmark netted her first collegiate goal in the 89th minute for some insurance as Curry secured the 6-0 victory. Sullivan dished out her second assist of the day on the goal.

The Colonels held a significant margin in the shot count, outshooting the Mariners 55-1 and 26-0 in shots on goal. Gemma Landry made 20 saves for Mitchell, while Curry's Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) was credited with the win despite not having to stop a Mariner shot.

Curry will be back in action on Saturday for a conference contest against Salve Regina at 12 p.m. Mitchell will return to the pitch for a non-conference contest against York (N.Y.) on Wednesday.
