Women's Soccer Shut Out, 3-0 at Gordon College

WENHAM, Mass.— Playing host to Curry College today in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match on Gordon's Quad, the Scots cruised to a 3-0 win and their third straight shutout to improve to 9-6 overall, 5-3 in conference on the season.

With Gordon commanding much of the possession in the early going, it took just nine minutes before midfielder Hannah Midwinter (Fr./Barkhamsted, Conn.) volleyed home a corner from Angela Muñoz (So./East Stroudsberg, Pa.) to give Gordon the 1-0 advantage. Despite continued offensive pressure and 17 shots in the first, the score remained at 1-0 heading into the break thanks in part to the efforts of Curry keeper Samantha Hardy (Jr./Pepperell, Mass.), who turned away 10 shots in the half.

The Scots' offensive pressure would pay off in the second, however, when in the 59th minute defender Liz Cheesman (Sr./Winslow, Maine) headed a through ball to forward Caitlin Nedde (Jr./Colchester, Vt.), who slotted one to the far post to extend Gordon's lead to 2-0. Then, in the 75th minute, Nedde would net her second of the day and give the Scots an insurance goal after burying a ball to the far post off a pass from midfielder Krysti Leach (Sr./Naples, Maine) for the 3-0 advantage and eventual win.

Karina Scavo (Jr./Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) had a standout day in helping to control possession in the midfield and create quality scoring opportunities for the Scots, while keeper Kari Christensen (So./Standish, Maine), this week's CCC Defensive Player of the Week, made six saves to preserve the shutout.

Hardy and Hayley Lorge (So./Beverly, Mass.) combined for 17 saves in the loss for the Colonels, who move to 3-13 overall, 1-7 in conference.

The Scots continue with conference play on Saturday, October 22 as they travel to Roger Williams for a 3:00p.m. start. Curry will host Salve on the same day at 11:00a.m.
