Women's Soccer Shut Out by the University of New England 2-0

MILTON, Mass.- The  University of New England defeated Curry College 2-0 on Tuesday in Milton.  With the win the Nor’easters improve to 11-4 overall and 8-3 in the TCCC and move above the Colonels in the conference.  The Colonels fell to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the TCCC.

Curry College held the lead in shots in the first half.  The Colonels outshot the Noreaster’s 8-4.  Three of UNE’s shots came with just under five minutes of play.  Freshman Brittney McLaughlin (Wilmington, MA) had an opportunity to put her team on the board first, but the goal was called back for an offside.  Solid play by both goalkeepers kept the score tied at zero.  Curry was led by McLaughlin who had five shots and four on goal.  UNE was lead by junior Alice Read (Auburn, ME) with three shots and one on net.

UNE came out strong in the second half.  After trailing 8-4 in shots following the first period, they came back to take a 13-11 lead before scoring their first goal.  At the 56:00 mark freshman Katy Marshall (Eliot, ME) sent a through ball to junior Katie Caron (Winslow, ME) who dribble past sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Hardy (Pepperell, MA).  The Nor’easters game-winning goal came at 75:35.  Junior Sarah Richardson (Rochester, NH) crossed the ball from the right side of the field to sophomore Lauren Blaisdell (Scarborough, ME) who one-timed it into the back of the net.

Curry continued to pressure the UNE defense and junior goalkeeper Jess Woodworth (Concord, NH).  The Colonels took seven shots in the last ten minutes of the game, six of them landing on net, but none could get past Woodworth.

Curry finished with 19 shots and UNE 13.

Woodworth earned the win in net for the Nor’easters who made 14 saves. Hardy finished with seven saves in the loss.

The Colonels will travel to Emmanuel College on Thursday, October 21 for a 7:00 p.m. contest. UNE hosts Nichols, October 23 for a 1:00 p.m. game start.
