Women's Soccer Edged 3-2 by TCCC Rival Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass.- Roger Williams University defeated Curry College 3-2 on Saturday in Milton.  With the win the Hawks improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Colonels fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the TCCC.

Roger Williams got on the board first at the 23:37 mark when junior Laurin Pendelton (Southwick, Mass.) scored off a direct kick from teammate sophomore Maddy Howard (Medfield, Mass.).  Just five minutes later the Hawks took a two goal lead when senior Katie Fusaro (Hopkington, Mass.) capitalized on a Curry defensive mistake and shot the ball past Curry goalkeeper sophomore Samantha Hardy(Pepperell, Mass.).  Curry responded with a goal of their own at the 30:35 mark when freshman Alexsa Hesford (Scituate, RI) dribbled past the Roger Williams defense.

Hardy came up big in net for the Colonels in the second half.  The Hawks had plenty of opportunity to take a demanding lead to start the half but solid play from Hardy kept the Colonels within one.  Hardy’s biggest save of the day came when she stopped a Roger Williams penalty kick that was taken by Fusaro.  Fusaro though wasn’t finished as she scored her second of the day and the game-winner at 66:03.  Curry though kept fighting and once again cut the Hawks lead to just one when freshman Alayna Coakley (Grafton, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal.  The Colonels however couldn’t find the back of the net again and ended the game with the 3-2 loss.

Sophomore Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, NY) made seven saves for the win.  In net for Curry was Hardy who made a career high 15 saves.

The Colonels will travel to Salem State University on Tuesday, September 14 for a 3:00 p.m. contest. Roger Williams will travel to Brandeis University on Thursday September 16 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.
