Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - The Curry College women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the 2022 season Saturday afternoon, defeating the Massachusetts Maritime Academy 12-11 in non-conference action at Clean Harbors Stadium.

With the victory, Curry improves to 1-5 overall on the season.

The teams split eight goals in the opening quarter and were tied at 4-4 after 15 minutes. The Buccaneers opened the scoring just 27 minutes in, but Curry scored four times before Mass. Maritime scored three times before the horn to level the score. Freshman Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) scored twice in the first quarter, while Morgan Orr (Bozrah, Conn.) and Sharon Doherty (Easton, Mass.) also found the net.

Curry scored the only two goals of the second quarter on strikes from Goolgasian and Maggie Murray (Marstons Mills, Mass.) to take a 6-4 lead to the locker room.

A pair of goals from Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) with individual tallies from Orr and Murray helped the visitors jump out to a 10-6 lead heading to the fourth and final quarter.

In the fourth, the Buccaneers made things interesting when they scored three goals in 57 seconds to cut their deficit to 12-11 with 6:20 to play, but fourth quarter goals from Natalie Keenan (Haverhill, Mass.) and Doherty held up as the Colonels escaped with the win.

Between the pipes, senior Jess Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) made 10 saves to receive her first victory of the season.

Curry will return to the field on Wednesday to continue its five-game road trip at Clark University, starting at 7 p.m.
