Women's Lacrosse Earns Triumph Over Nichols in Season Finale

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team picked up a 19-9 victory over Nichols College on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Vendetti Field.

It was a two-headed attack for the Colonels as junior Sharon Doherty (North Easton, Mass.) and freshman Chloe Chevrier (West Suffield, Conn.) combined for 11 goals. Doherty netted seven tallies while Chevrier added four.

Junior Sabrina Santaniello (Marshfield, Mass.) contributed two goals and three assists while senior Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Ellie Hardman (Hanover, Mass.) each registered two goals and a helper each.

Sophomore Mackenzie Doran (Wolfeboro, N.H.) led the Bison (0-5 overall, 0-5 CCC) with three goals and added an assist. Graduate student McKenna Gernander (Coleraine, Minn.) added a hat trick while junior Sam Ahaesy (North Dartmouth, Mass.) pitched in a pair of goals.

Between the pipes, freshman Megan Buxton (Pascoag, R.I.) turned aside nine shots in a losing effort. On the opposite end, sophomore Amanda Benedetti (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) made four saves to earn her first win of the spring.

Curry came out of the gates charging, scoring the first five goals of the contest. The teams traded the next four followed by two straight from Nichols as Curry led 7-2 with 17:01 remaining in the opening half. The squads netted two straight goals apiece. Gernander and junior Elizabeth Luster (Gloucester, Mass.) found the back of the net for the Bison while Doherty and Chevrier rounded out the scoring in the half as the Colonels entered the half with a 9-4 advantage.

After Nichols opened the scoring in the second half, Curry answered with six straight to build a 15-5 lead. The margin hovered between nine and 11 or the Colonels for the remainder of the half as Curry came away with the 10-goal victory.

This game concludes the season for the Curry (2-6 overall, 2-6 CCC).
