MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team outscored Emmanuel College 8-4 in the second half en route to a 15-12 non-conference victory on Thursday night at Walter M. Katz Field.
Sophomore Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) and junior Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) each finished with four goals to lead the Colonels (4-2 overall). Junior Leona Stevens (Kinston, Mass.) netted a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. Freshman Andria Torres (Milford, Conn.), junior Kayla Merritt (Attleboro, Mass.), sophomore Allie Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.), and freshman Sharon Doherty (North Easton, Mass.) each found the back of the net to close out the scoring. Freshman goalie Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) made seven saves in the victory.
Sophomore Elizabeth Fortier (Newburyport, Mass.) netted a team-high four points on three goals and one assist. Junior Kylie Rice (Bethlehem, Conn.) followed with three points via two goals and one helper. Freshman Jessica Borduas (Woodbury, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.) pitched in two goals apiece while sophomore Aisling Butler (Westfield, Mass.), freshman Lincoln Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine), and freshman Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a goal each to pace the Saints (3-2 overall). Senior goalie Bethany Bonilla-Colon (Milton, Mass.) had a busy day between the pipes and contributed 16 saves.
Curry looked to be in control early as a 4-0 run helped stake the home team to a 5-1 lead after just 8:45. Emmanuel responded by scoring three of the next four goals to cut the Colonel lead to 6-4. Hamblett, Saef, and Fortier each tallied twice during the run, which was finally snapped by Parker's goal with 15:24. The Saints stuck four straight times before the buzzer to give Emmanuel an 8-7 advantage at the break.
The Colonels scored the first goal of the second half off a marker from Parker to knot the game at 8. The assist was credited to Stevens. The Saints regained the lead 9-8 after Borduas tickled the twine on a goal coming off a pass from Fortier. Curry then answered back with a 3-0 run on goals by Torres (FP), Dubel, and Stevens. The Colonels outscored Emmanuel 5-3 over the final 12:23 to walk away with the 15-11 victory. The final stretch of the contest was highlighted by another 3-0 run, this time coming from Parker, Dubel, and Merritt.
Dubel filled the stat sheet with 10 draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Freshman Maggie Murray (Marston Mills, Mass.) added six draw controls and one ground ball. As a squad, the Colonels held a 38-25 edge in shots and a 22-15 advantage in ground balls.
Curry will next play at Endicott College on Saturday, March 23 for it Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener at noon. Emmanuel returns to conference play for its next contest and will travel to Colby Sawyer College on Wednesday, March 27 for a 4:00 p.m. first draw.
