Women's Lacrosse Tripped up by Visiting CCC Rival Nichols College, 12-8

MILTON, Mass.- The Curry College women’s lacrosse team fell to Nichols College, 12-8 on Saturday in Milton, Mass.  With the loss, the Colonels fell to 7-6 overall and 0-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Bison improved to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the CCC.

The Colonels were the first to get on the board when junior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) tallied her first of four goals on the night.  The Bison were quick to tie it up when freshman Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) took advantage of a man-up situation and scored an unassisted goal.  Nichols took the lead just under two minutes later after freshman Sam MacMilam (Bridgewater, Mass.) found the back of the net.  Curry scored two back-to-back goals to regain the lead, one by senior Heather Breton (Wolfeboro, N.H.) who received a pass from Bottary and the other by sophomore Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.).  Sophomore Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) was credited with Carey’s goal.  The Bison once again tied the game when senior Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) beat a Curry defender and shot the ball past senior goalkeeper Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.).  The Colonels netted the last two of the half just 23 seconds apart to go into the break with a 5-3 lead.  Bottary had both goals, one off a free-position shot and the other unassisted.

Curry held a slight advantage in shots in the first half with 17, while Nichols had 14.  The Bison however had seven to the Colonels three draw controls.

Nichols didn’t waste much time as they came out in the second frame scoring the first goal just 1:22 in.  Senior Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) was fouled in the 8-meter and scored off a free-position.  Brickey netted one for the Colonels off a pass from Bottary, but the Bison went on to score six unanswered to take the lead that the Colonels couldn’t regain.  Curry was able to post just two more to finish the game, but Nichols also scored two more to end the half with nine goals, while Curry had just three.

Bottary led the team with four goals and two assist for a total of six points. Breton, Carey, Brickey and Monfredo each contributed to the Colonel’s scoring a point apiece. Monfredo, and sophomore Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) were credited with an assist each.
