Women's Lacrosse Earns 18-5 Victory Over Fitchburg State University

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College defeated the visiting Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team this evening, 18-5 in non-conference action at the Walter M. Katz Field.  With the win the Colonels improve to 6-5, the Falcons fell to 5-6. 
 
    Curry junior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) led all scorers, totaling a game-high eight points with four goals and four assists, while sophomore Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) added six points on the evening with a game-best five scores and one dish. Brickey also won seven draw controls, picked up three ground balls and caused four turnovers.  Bottary won four draws, had three groundballs and caused two turnovers.  Sophomore Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) was also solid, chipping in with four goals and one helper for five points on the night.
 
    The Colonels grabbed a commanding seven goal lead after one half of play, using a four goal effort from Brickey and a trio of scores from Monfredo. Trailing 3-2 after a pair of scores from Fitchburg State freshman Lindsay White (Hanover, Mass.) and a single tally from senior Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass.), Curry unleashed an 8-0 run to close the half with a 10-3 advantage. Brickey converted three scores in the Colonels run, while Monfredo, Bottary and Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) also added goals.
 
    Curry wasted no time in the second half, getting on the board just 0:36 into the period on a Brickey score, and adding three more unanswered markers for a 14-3 advantage. Fitchburg State stopped the Curry streak with a goal from junior Jessica Bartlett (Marlborough, Mass.) at the 16:19 mark, but four other tallies for the Colonels iced the contest. The Falcons added one more goal with a score from Finamore at the 6:12 mark, but the Colonel defense limited the Falcons to just ten shots in the second half.
 
    Finamore led the Fitchburg State offensive efforts with three points on the night, including two goals and one helper, while White two goals and Bartlett one goals and an assist, added two points apiece.
 
    Throughout the contest, Curry held a 37-20 advantage in targets, while also posting a 14-11 advantage on the draw. In net, sophomore Dylana Drolette (Burlington, Vt.) totaled nine saves in her 60 minute effort for the Falcons, while senior Mara Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) collected eight stops in 48:30 minutes of work for Curry.  Sophomore Emily LeBlanc (Abington, Mass.) came in for Lynch and played the remaining 11:30 minutes in net, making one save.
 
    Curry will host Emerson College on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Fitchburg State will be back in action on Saturday as it hosts Westfield State at 11 a.m.
