Women's Lacrosse Suffers a 20-13 Loss to CCC Rival Roger Williams
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College lost to the visiting Hawks of Roger Williams University in women's Lacrosse action, 20-13, on Saturday in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game. With the loss, Curry drops their record to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in CCC play. RWU's record improves to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in CCC play.

Kelsey Rahilly (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) set the pace and started the scoring for RWU. In the first period, Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) answered at 19:29 to tie the game.  Just 19 seconds later, the Hawks got back on top when Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.) received a pass from teammate Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.).  Kristin Pingree (Georgetown, Mass) scored next for RWU with Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) bringing it back to a 3-2 game at 15:37. Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) and Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) each scored two goals for the Hawks in the half. Dana Wilfahrt (Hamilton, Mass.) and Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) each had their only goal of the game in the frame. Rahilly and Delia each were credited with an assists. RWU’s Kristin Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) and Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) began their scoring streak at the 9:09 mark of the first half.  Curry’s Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) finished with three goals for the Colonel’s to end the half, Bottary also with an assist.  The Hawks posted 12 goals in the opening stanza with Curry just netting five.

Curry came out strong scoring the first two goals of the second half. Senior Heather Breton (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) each had a goal for the Colonels’s. RWU answered with two goals, one from Delia and Searl alike. Curry’s sophomore Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) had two goals to help Curry cut the Hawks lead. Bottary led the Colonel’s scoring three goals in the frame.  Pingree also led the Hawks with three goals in the remaining period. Searl, Delia, and Rahilly each contributed a goal in the half.  Despite Curry’s effort in the second half, it wasn’t enough as Roger Williams earned the 20-13 victory.

The Colonels were lead by Bottary who finished with four goals and chipped in with an assist for five points.  The Hawks were lead by Pingree who tallied five goals and added an assist for six points.

RWU held a slight advantage in shots with 37 while the Colonels had 36.  Curry had 16 draw controls to RWU’s 14 and scooped up 12 ground balls, while the Hawks had 11.
Curry’s Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) made eight saves in net for the loss.  Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) had 15 saves for RWU in the win.
 
Curry will host Fitchburg State University in a non-conference match-up on April 10 in a 6:30 p.m. game start.  Roger Williams will host CCC opponent Western New England University on April 11 for a 4:00 p.m. start.
