Women's Lacrosse Handed 21-11 Loss to CCC Rival Endicott

MILTON, Mass. - Endicott College defeated Curry College, 21-11 on Wednesday in Milton, Mass.  With the loss, the Colonels fell to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.  The Gulls improve to 5-2 overall and remained undefeated at 2-0 in the CCC.

Curry was the first to get on the board to start the game at the 2:15 minute mark.  Sophomore Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) scored off an assist by junior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.).  Endicott took advantage of two back-to-back man-up situations to score the next two goals just 15 seconds apart.   Senior Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) received a pass from junior Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) for the Gulls first tally and junior Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) chipped in next off an assist from junior Lauren Todd (Newsfields, N.H.).  Bottary evened the score at two but Endicott scored three unanswered to earn the lead back.  Davis, DeShaw and sophomore Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) each had a goal.  Tierney assisted on two of the Gulls three goals.  Senior Heather Breton (Wolfeboro, N.H.)scored her first and only goal of the night and the last for the Colonels in the half.  Endicott went on another scoring spree putting away four more to head into the break with a demanding 9-3 lead.  DeShaw, Tierney and Davis along with sophomore Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.)were credited with goals for the Gulls.  Murphy and senior Michelle Loizzo (Longmeadow, Mass.)each had an assist.  Both goaltenders played solid between the pipes over the last 7:25 of play.

Endicott started the second half with another four goal run.  Tierney tallied two and DeShaw and Loizzo had one each.  The Colonels finally got their first score of the half at the 23:54 mark when sophomore Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.)scored on a free position.  Todd answered back for Endicott but Curry netted the next two, one from Bottary and the other by sophomore Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.). Davis and DeShaw each had the next two for the Gulls.  Curry was able to net three in a row from Carey, Bottary and Brickey.  Endicott however would not back down as they finished the game with four more, the last with just one second left on the clock and Curry was able to just get two. 

Bottary led the Colonels with five goals and one assist for six points.  Tierney led the Gulls with eight points on six goals and two assists.  Tierney also had a career-high 17 draw controls.  DeShaw was also a big threat on the Endicott attack dishing in with six goals of her own. 

Endicott led the game with 38 shots on goal to Curry’s 28. The Colonels scooped up eight groundballs and the Gulls 5.
 
Curry’s senior goaltender, Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) made 14 stops in net in 60:00 minutes of play. In goal for Endicott was senior Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) who made ten saves in the win.

The Colonels will travel to Wheelock College on Saturday, March 31 for a 1:00 p.m. game time. Endicott will host Gordon College in a conference match-up on March 31, also for a 1:00 p.m. start.
