Bottary Finishes With Nine Points to Lead the Colonels to a 14-12 Win Over Lasell College

MILTON, Mass.-Curry College defeated Lasell College, 14-12 on Wednesday in Milton, Mass.  With the win, the Colonels improve to 2-0 overall.  The Lasers fell to 0-1 overall.

The Colonels came back from an 11-7 Lasell lead with just 22 minutes left to play.  Curry scored six unanswered goals before the Lasers would score their last goal of the game at the 4:08 minute mark.  The Colonels had the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining and were able to hold possession for the win. 

Junior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) led the team with seven goals and two assist for a total of nine points in the win. Four of Bottary’s goals came late in the second half.  Sophomore’s Kelly Either (Merrimack, N.H.) and Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) each chipped in with one goal. Monfredo was credited two assists in the half. Sophomore’s Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) and Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) helped the Colonel’s with two goals apiece. Sophomore Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) also had one goal. 

Curry, who led the game with 33 shots on goal to Lasell’s, 19 also scooped up six groundballs to the Laser’s three.

Lasell held a steady six goals per half in the loss. The Lasers had five different scores.  Sophomore Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) contributed to the scoring with two goals and an assist in the first half. Junior Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore’s Bridget Ryan (Chatham, N.J.), Erin Gertonson (Bayport, N.Y.), and freshman Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) each helped out with a goal apiece in the period. Ryan led the second half in scoring with three goals in the loss. Wuorio had two goals for a team high four and sophomore Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, Conn.) chipped in with one. Slattery was also credited with an assist to end the game.

Curry’s senior goalkeeper, Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) finished with four saves in her second win of the season. In net for Lasell was freshman Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.) who made 10 saves in the loss.

The Colonels will travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to play New England College on Monday, March 12 for an 11:00 a.m. game time. Lasell will host Wellesley College on March 10 for a 12:00 p.m. start.
