Women's Lacrosse Defeats Mount Ida, 16-11, in Season Opener

MILTON, Mass.-Curry College defeated Mt. Ida College, 16-11 on Tuesday in Milton, Mass.  With the win, the Colonels improve to 1-0 overall.  The Mustangs fell to 0-1 overall.

Junior Ana Bottary (Hull, Mass.) led the team with six goals and three assist for a total of nine points in the game. Sophomore Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.) also netted five goals and chipped in with two assists in the win. Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) helped the Colonels with two goals in the game. Senior Heather Breton (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore’s Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) and Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) each scored one goal. Brickey also had three assists, and Monfredo rounded out the scoring with one assist in the match.

Curry, which held a 21-8 advantage in draw controls, also scooped up 17 groundballs to Mt. Ida's 9. 

Mount Ida had six first half goals and scored five in the second. Three different players scored for the Mustangs.  Sophomore Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, N.Y.) was the first to get on the board and led the Mustangs with three goals and one assist in the first half and had two goals in the second. Sheppard led her team with six points on the day.  Junior Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, R.I.) and freshman Amanda Bowen (Randolph, Vt.) finished the game with three goals apiece. Junior’s Milot and Alison Koning (Carlisle, Mass.) as well as freshman Kaitlyn Bravo (East Providence, R.I.) each contributed to the Mustang attack with an assist each.

Curry played all three goalies for the win. Senior Maria Lynch (Billerica, Mass.) finished with six saves with seven goals against in 46:39 minutes of play. Junior Emily LeBlanc (Abington, Mass.) entered the net for 8:21 minutes, making two saves and letting in one goal. Freshman Christina Wallis (Peabody, Mass.) played just five minutes to end the game, letting in three goals. In net for Mount Ida was junior Kayla Musty (Topsham, Vt.) who made seven saves in the loss.

The Colonels will host Lasell College on Wednesday, March 7 for a 4:30 p.m. game time. Mount Ida travels to UMass Dartmouth on March 8 for a 4:00 p.m. start.
