Keene State Downs Women's Lacrosse 16-10

MILTON, Mass.- Keene State scored 11 second half goals to beat Curry 16-10.  With the win, the Owls improve their record to 2-0.  The Colonels fall to 1-1 overall. 

The first half was even for both teams in shots.  Keene fired first on a goal by junior Jamie Albert (Southington, CT) and Curry answered back with two of its own on goals from seniors Ashley Hansbury(Chelmsford, MA) and Carissa Lauyer (Bloomsbury, NJ).  Keene would tie it when junior Jenny Lillis (West Babylon, NY) put one past the Colonels goalie Maria Lynch (Billerica, MA). Curry would regain the lead but it would be the last of the game.  Senior Rachel Robichaud (Billerica, MA) and freshman Ana Bottary (Hull, MA) finished out the first half scoring for Curry.   Sophomore Caitlyn Corace (Mahopac, NY) and freshman Nicole Curry (Hampstead) scored one of their three on the day,  and freshmen Lauren Brown (Agawam, MA) scored for the Owls to take a 5-4 lead heading into the second half.

Keene took control of the game in the second frame. The teams traded goals and Curry got back to within one at 9-8 but the Owls would score seven more to Curry's two.  Albert lead the Owls in goals with four.  Junior Lauren Sawyer (Westbrook, ME) tallied two goals and added five assists for a team high seven points.   Juniors Emily Persano (Somers, CT) and Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, NY) chipped in for one apiece. 

The Colonels had five of their own scorers.  Robichaud led with three goals while Bottary and junior Jessie Koffman (Andover, MA) each had two.  Junior Elissa Bulgatz  (Chicago, IL) also added to the Colonels scoring with one.        

Keene's goalie sophomore Alyssa Marinaccio (Narragansett, R.I) earned the win in net and made 10 saves.  Junior Maria Lynch made a career high 15 saves for Curry in taking the loss. 

Both teams will head south for spring break.  Curry will play Fitchburg State on Monday March 15 at 7:00 p.m.  Keene will play Clarkson on Monday March 15 for a 4:00 p.m. game time.
