Women’s Ice Hockey Shuts Out Salve Regina to Advance to CCC Playoff Semifinal

NEWPORT, R.I. - Curry College defeated Salve Regina 3-0 in the first round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference women's ice hockey playoff tournament Wednesday afternoon at St George's School Ice Rink.

The win marks the second-ever postseason victory for the women's ice hockey team in the program's three-year history. The Colonels finished the regular season with a conference record of 5-8-5, while the Seahawks had a CCC record of 8-9-1.

After a scoreless first period, Curry College wasted little time establishing a lead when junior Ali Olerenshaw (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) found the back of the net just four minutes into the second to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. She was assisted on the scoring play by junior Danielle Reid (Plainview, N.Y.) and sophomore Katie Courteau (Warroad, Minn.).

Curry scored a pair of insurance goals late in the final period of action, the first coming from freshman Julia Small (Methuen, Mass.) on a powerplay with just under five minutes remaining in the third. She was assisted by junior Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) and sophomore Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.).

Sophomore Ella Altiman (Chatham, Ontario) ensured victory for the Colonels, scoring an unassisted goal with just 33 seconds remaining in the contest to put the game out of reach for the Seahawks.

Graduate goalkeeper Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario) played the entire game in net for Curry, making 24 saves to keep the slate clean against Salve Regina.

Curry College moves onto the semifinal round of the CCC tournament where they will face off against Endicott on Saturday, February 24th.
