Women's Ice Hockey Draws Against #11 Endicott, Clinch Playoff Spot

Canton, MA - For the third straight game the Curry Women's Ice Hockey team won in a shootout, but had the game go in the books as a tie. The Colonels played the nationally ranked Endicott Gulls to a 2-2 draw, before taking the shootout 1-0. It was the fifth time this season the Colonels had a game go to a shootout, with Curry winning all five. The Colonels end the regular season with a 9-11-5 record, and 5-8-5 in the CCC. The Gulls are now 18-4-3 and 15-2-1, as they head into the playoffs as the CCC's number one seed. With the tie, the Colonels clinch the final spot in the CCC playoffs.

Prior to the game, the Colonels honored their two graduate seniors, Sadie Storm and Soleil Archambeault. Storm and Archambeault are the first two graduating members of the Curry Women's Ice Hockey program.

Despite being outshot 18-8 in the first period, the game was still scoreless as Archambeault made save after save to keep the Colonels in it. The second period saw the Colonels get some offense going, and they outshot the Gulls 19-13. On the fourth of those shots, Grayson Goolgasian found the back of the net for her eighth goal of the season, with assists by Hannah Berkowitz and Anna Kahl. The score stood at 1-0 headed into the third period. The Colonels would double their lead midway through the third, this time on a goal from Julia Small, her third of the season. She was assisted by Berkowitz and Goolgasian. But the #11 team in the country did not go away easily, cutting the lead in half with five minutes remaining while shorthanded. The Gulls fired shot after shot, totaling 18 shots in the period. It took all 18 of them, as they scored with 10 seconds left in the game to tie things up, sending the game to overtime. The two teams would go up and down the ice numerous times, but neither team was able to break the tie, sending the game to a shootout.

With the game going to a shootout, the two teams sent player after player at each goalie, but both goalies stopped each of the first eight shots. In the ninth round, after Soleil Archambeault stonewalled the Gulls player, Kalie Gruhlke, who had just one career goal over three season, was able to find the back of the net, ending the marathon shootout.

On the day where she was honored prior to the game, Archambeault was a huge reason why the Colonels were in the game, and clinched a playoff spot. She stopped 50 of 52 shots, not counting the nine from the shootout.

Up Next - The Colonels will travel to Salve Regina on Wednesday for the opening game of the CCC playoffs. That game's start time is TBD.
