Women’s Ice Hockey Flies High Against Seahawks

CANTON, Mass. - Curry College hosted the 7th annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Canton Ice House, defeating Salve Regina University 6-1 Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's ice action.

With the win, the Colonels improve to an overall record of 9-9-2 and a conference record of 5-7-2.

The Colonels scored three times in the first period, starting with a goal by freshman Anna Kahl (Simsbury, Conn.) three and a half minutes into the game; she was assisted on the play by junior Ali Olorenshaw (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Sophomore Margot Oxman scored her second goal of the season on a powerplay just a few minutes later off the rebound of a shot by sophomore Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.). Junior Hannah Berkowitz rounded out scoring in the period with an unassisted goal to put Curry on top 3-0.

After letting up a goal early in the second, the Colonels struck back with under five minutes remaining in the period when Danielle Reid (Plainview, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to put Curry on top 4-1.

The Colonels offense kept the pressure on in the third when sophomore Tommi Nash (Point Pleasant, N.J.) scored on a power play opportunity just 37 seconds into the final period; she was assisted on the play by Kahl. Kahl scored her second goal of the game six minutes later off a pass from freshman Kayley Hansen (Kenosha, Wis.) to give the Colonels a 6-1 lead.

Graduate goaltender Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario) played the entire game in net for the Colonels, making 26 saves in the win.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday, February 3rd, with a road contest against the University of New England starting at 4 p.m.
