Women’s Ice Hockey Opens Flood Gates on Southern Maine

CANTON, Mass. - Curry College had five different players score on its way to an 8-2 victory over Southern Maine Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's ice hockey action at the Canton Ice House.

With the win Curry improves to 2-1-0 on the young season.

Curry opened up the floodgates early when Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) scored the first goal of the game just 3:54 into play. She was assisted on the play by Ali Olerenshaw (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). The Colonels picked up their second goal under two minus later when Kayley Hansen (Kenosha, Wis.) scored after receiving the puck from Hannah Berkowitz (Mattawan, Mich.) and Julia Small (Methuen, Mass.).

Curry took a 3-0 lead in under ten minutes of play when Berkowitz joined the list of goal scorers with 10:43 remaining in the first period. She was assisted on the play by Danielle Reid (Plainview, N.Y. ). Goolgasian would find the back of the net one more time in the first period to take a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes of play. This time she was assisted by Anna Kahl (Simsbury, Conn.) and Margot Oxman (Lower Merion, Pa.).

The onslaught continued into the next period when Reid scored on a power play five minutes into the second with help from Berkowitz and Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.). Kayley scored her second goal of the contest late in the period, assisted by Berkowitz and Small, to put the Colonels on top 6-2 heading into the final period.

The Colonels added to their advantage in the third period as two more power play goals scored by Berkowitz and Olerenshaw gave the game its final score of 8-2. Doyle, Reid, and Emily Bisbee (Weymouth, Mass.) were credited with assists.

Soleil Archambeault (London, Ontario) earned the win in goal for the Colonels, making 25 saves in 60 minutes of play.

Curry College returns to action on Monday (11/6) in a road match against Worcester State University beginning at 3 p.m.
