Colonels Shutout by Bison in CCC Action

CANTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's ice hockey team was downed by the Bison of Nichols College by a margin of 6-0 Friday evening at The Canton Ice House.

With the loss, Curry falls to 1-6 overall this season and 1-4 in the CCC. With the win, the Bison improve to 5-2 on the season and 3-2 in the conference.

The Bison took the lead early, netting their first of the contest just three minutes into the first period. Goal was scored by Kara Santoro (Wolcott, Conn.), Megan Buxton (Pascoag, R.I) and Lauren Rokala (Saint Michael, Minn.) were credited with the assists. Just two minutes later, Nichols would extend their lead as Kara Santoro found the back of the net for the second time, assisted by Kaci Johnson (Wayzata, Minn.). 

The Bison would not stop scoring there in the first period. Sophomore forward Grace Wiggett (Essex Junction, VT) put the Bison up 3-0 on a power-play goal with just five minutes left of the first period. Alicia Hunks (Georgetown, Ontario) and Jordyn McGuire (Salem, N.H.) were credited on the assist.

Nichols recorded three more goals through the duration of the second period. Senior Isabella Portt (Belleville, Ontario) netted a shot early in the period from Mel McAleer (Hanson, Mass.) and Macee Salley (Gloucester, R.I.). Portt's power-play goal would put the Bison up 4-0. Nichols freshman forward Melissa Montesi (North Haven, Conn.) would be gifted a goal by the Colonels back line as a mishandled puck trickled its way to the possession of Montesi who was able to bury Nichols' fifth goal of the contest. Megan Buxton (Pascoag, R.I) would tally another for the Bison, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity just nine minutes into the second period. Assist were credited to Mel McAleer (Hanson, Mass.) and Alicia Hunks (Georgetown, Ontario).

Curry's Ella Campbell (Farmington Hills, Mich.) recorded 35 saves with 6 goals against in the loss. Nichols' Julia Carroll (Albert Bridge, Nova Scotia) recorded 18 saves with no goals against in the victory.

The contest saw 41 shots by the visitors and only 18 from Curry. The Bison also tallied 3-4 on power-play opportunities.

The Colonels get back out on the ice Saturday, November 20, as they head on the road to face Nichols for more CCC action. Puck-drop is scheduled for 4:40 PM.
