Women’s Basketball Knocked Out by Fighting Scots

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College was defeated 77-67 by Gordon College Wednesday night in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball game at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Colonels fall to an overall record of 7-13 and a conference record of 2-10.

After a slow first half, the Curry offense came alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Fighting Scots by a margin of 27-11 in the period. Junior Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) combined for 18 points in the third, with McCarthy going 3-for-4 from the field, including a pair of three pointers.

Trailing by 13 points to start the third quarter, the Colonels took a 47-46 lead with just under two minutes remaining in the period when McCarthy knocked down a triple, followed quickly by another three by Jessica Helou-Topini (Guilderland, N.Y.) to further extend the Curry lead. The Colonels would lead by as much as seven points (60-53) with five minutes remaining in regulation.

McCarthy had an impressive statline, leading the Colonels in several offensive and defensive categories with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Dunn and freshman Kasey Reeves (Millbury, Mass.).

Curry College opens up February play with a road game against Western New England University on Saturday the 3rd beginning at 1 p.m.
