Women’s Basketball Unable to Comeback Against Colby-Sawyer

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College was defeated by Colby-Sawyer 60-59 Tuesday night in non-conference women's basketball action at Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Colonels drop to an overall record of 3-1 on the young season.

After a first quarter that saw the Chargers knock down four threes to take a 21-8 lead, Curry fared slightly better in the second, only getting outscored by four points to leave the home team trailing by 17 heading into halftime.

The Colonels battled back in the third, led by a seven-point quarter by sophomore Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) which allowed Curry to outscore the visitors by four points in the quarter.

Trailing by 13 points heading into the final quarter, Olivia Gourdine (Barnstable, Mass.) fired up the Colonels, recording a steal and finishing a fastbreak layup to kickstart a 13-3 scoring run that put Curry with three points (54-51) of the lead with four minutes remaining. A Lauren Morse (Holyoke, Mass.) layup put Curry on top 59-58 with 40 seconds remaining.

The Chargers scored the game-winner with just eight seconds remaining, dashing the Colonels' comeback aspirations.

Kasey Reeves (Millbury, Mass.) led Curry with 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Dunn finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Emerson Cherry (Sturbridge, Mass.) had nine assists and four steals. Sophie Hilbrunner (Waltham, Mass.) was another significant contributor, with 10 points and rebounds to earn the double-double.

Curry College returns to action on Tuesday (11/21) in a home matchup against Fitchburg beginning at 6 p.m.
