Women's Basketball Tips Off Season With 48-Point Win Over Dean

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Curry College opened the season with a bang, defeating Dean College 84-36 Wednesday night in a non-conference collegiate women's basketball game at Pieri Gymnasium.

With the win, Curry improves to an overall record of 1-0 on the young season.

After establishing a six-point lead after one-quarter of play, the Colonels offense exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs by a margin of 31-2 in the period. Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) scored 11 points in the quarter going 3-for-5 from the field, while knocking down all four of her free throw attempts. Ellery Campbell (Rockland, Mass.) had eight points in the quarter coming off the bench, going 3-for-3 in the field in the period.

Dunn continued to dominate after the halftime break, adding another nine points in the third quarter, while Campbell knocked down four out of free throws to help the Colonels win the third quarter by a margin of 17-6.

Dunn led all players with 20 points while adding four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Lauren Morse (Holyoke, Mass.) scored sixteen points off the bench, knocking down a game-high four three-pointers.

Campbell was another major contributor, finishing with 14 points in the game while going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She also earned the double-double with 10 rebounds. Kylie McCathry (Beverly, Mass.) scored a notable 12 points.

Curry College returns to action on Saturday (11/11) to compete in the Elmira Tipoff Tournament at 4 p.m.
