Colonels Ground Gulls in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Endicott College by a final score of 63-42 Wednesday evening. 

With the win, the Colonels improve to 6-10 overall this season and 2-7 in the CCC.

The hosting Colonels began the conference contest on a 7-2 scoring run over the visiting Gulls. Endicott College would answer back, notching seven unanswered points to take a 9-7 lead over the Colonels. Two more points from the visitors and a made free-throw by Nicole Moran (Framingham, Mass.) closed out the first quarter in favor of the Gulls, 11-10.

Curry College took control following the break, tallying eight unanswered points to begin the second quarter. Curry freshman guard Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) notched six points in the quarter to push the Colonels to a 25-17 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter was a battle between the two conference sides. Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) marked the first bucket of the half, immediately followed by a Sarah Dempsey field goal to keep the Gulls in pace with the Colonels. An Emerson Cherry (Sturbridge, Mass.) three would prompt a timeout by the Gulls with under 1:30 remaining in the quarter. With five seconds left in the quarter, Curry's Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) brought the Colonels further into the lead after grabbing an offensive board and knocking down a layup to bring the score to 41-25.

A Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) three-pointer began the scoring for the Colonels in the final quarter, Curry now leading 44-25. Seven more points by McCarthy and seven by Remillard in the final quarter closed out the conference matchup with a final score of 63-42 in favor of the hosting Colonels.

The Colonels were led by Kylie McCarthy (14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Kaitlynn Smith (12 points, 3 steals), and Kathryn Dunn (10 points, 10 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Saturday as they host CCC opponent Roger Williams in Katz Gymnasium at 1 PM.
