Colonels Fall to Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England by a final score of 60-50 Saturday afternoon. 

With the loss, the Colonels fall to 5-10 overall this season and 1-7 in the CCC.

The first quarter of the Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup saw two evenly matched sides, Western N.E. taking a slight 15-11 lead heading into the second quarter. The Colonels came alive in the second quarter as Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) dropped three shots from the field along with 100% (4-4) free-throw shooting from Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) to propel the Colonels to a 28-23 lead heading into halftime. The Colonels would hold the hosting Golden Bears to just eight points in the second quarter.

The hosting Golden Bears would hold the Colonels to just 10 points through the third quarter, with Emma Kahn and Emma Elrod combining for 16 to send the contest into the third quarter with WNE leading 42-38. 

The fourth quarter saw the Golden Bears successfully hold back the Colonels from catching the lead gained in the third quarter, closing out the CCC matchup with a final score of 60-50 in favor of the Golden Bears.

The Colonels were led by Lauren Dunn (14 points, 4 rebounds) and Kathryn Dunn (13 points).

The Colonels return to the court Wednesday as they host CCC opponent Endicott College in Katz Gymnasium at 5 PM.
