Women’s Basketball Stopped by Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Suffolk University Saturday afternoon by a final score of 55-67.

With the loss, the Colonels drop to 5-8 overall this season and 1-5 in the CCC.

The hosting Rams came out strong in the conference matchup, surging to an 8-0 lead through the opening four minutes. Two successful free throws and a three-pointer from Curry's Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) brought the Colonels right back into the action. Another three from Curry's Nicole Moran (Framingham, Mass.) closed out the first quarter with the Colonels trailing just 11-15. 

The Colonels kept pace with the Rams, Ellery Campbell (Rockland, Mass.) notching two shots from the field and Lauren Dunn marking another three to send the matchup into halftime with Suffolk leading 34-26. 

A Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) layup kicked off the scoring in the second half for the Colonels, Curry now trailing by eight. Curry came within five points (33-38)of the hosts' lead with two layups by senior forward Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.). A solid offensive push by the Rams sent the contest into the fourth quarter, Suffolk leading 48-38. 

The fourth quarter saw the hosting Rams hold their lead late into the contest, outscoring the Colonels 19-17 in the final period of play. The Rams would take the conference matchup by a final score of 67-55.

The Colonels were led by Lauren Dunn (16 points, 3 rebounds) and Kathryn Dunn (13 points, 7 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Tuesday as they host CCC opponent Gordon College in Katz Gymnasium at 5 PM.
