Women’s Basketball Downed by Seahawks

NEWPORT, RI - Curry College Women's Basketball fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Salve Regina University on the road Tuesday evening by a final score of 67-60.

With the loss, the Colonels drop to 5-6 overall this season and 1-3 in the CCC.

The opening quarter of the conference matchup saw two evenly matched sides, both teams notching 12 points in the first ten minutes. Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) and Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) combined for seven, with all four of Dunn's from the free-throw line.

The hosting Seahawks pulled ahead in the second quarter as junior guard Amanda Folan led the charge with seven. A Kathrynn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) three-pointer and a layup from Kaitlynn Smith kept the Colonels close behind Salve Regina, heading into halftime trailing 26-21.

The Colonels would hold the Seahawks to just 20% (3-15) shooting from the field while notching 50% (8-16) to outscore the hosts 19-12 in the third quarter. Curry's Lauren Dunn paced her side with seven points in the third to head into the fourth quarter leading 40-38.

The final quarter saw the visiting Colonels hold the lead until midway through the period. The hosting Seahawks would gain a ten-point lead with just under a minute remaining in regulation and hold the Colonels' offense back, closing out the conference bout with a final score of 67-60.

Curry College was led by Kathrynn Dunn (17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals), Lauren Dunn (12 points, 4 rebounds), and Kylie McCarthy (10 points, 5 assists).

The Colonels return to the court Thursday as they continue CCC action with a home matchup against the University of New England at 5 PM.
