Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Nichols

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College women's basketball team dropped a high-scoring 99-92 decision to Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Dr. Eleanor Meyerhoff Katz Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

With the loss, Curry moves to 5-4 overall on the season and 1-2 in the CCC.

The first quarter saw the Colonels open up a 24-19 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Senior Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) led all players with eight points in the period, as the team shot 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from the floor.

Curry stayed hot offensively in the second quarter, as the Colonels shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc with triples from five different players. Nichols went 12-for-15 from the free throw line however and outscored Curry 24-23 as the teams went to the locker room with the Colonels on top 47-43.

Nichols controlled the third quarter, outscoring Curry 30-20 to take a 73-67 lead into the fourth. Curry got a team-high seven points from senior Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) in the period, but the team turned the ball over 11 times to contribute to the Bison's offensive explosion.

Curry could not overcome the deficit in the fourth quarter as the Bison closed out the CCC victory. The Bison outscored Curry 26-25 in the period.

Six Colonels finished the contest in double figures, led by Remillard and senior Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) with 16 points. Dunn and sophomore Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) each had 14 points, while freshman Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) had 12 and sophomore Emerson Cherry (Sturbridge, Mass.) 11.

Next up for the Colonels, they will travel to Framingham State University on Thursday evening. Tip-off from Framingham is slated for 6 p.m.
