Women’s Basketball Falls to Eastern Nazarene in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College Women's Basketball fell to non-conference opponent Eastern Nazarene in Katz Gymnasium Thursday evening by a final score of 78-68.

With the loss, the Colonels move forward with an overall record of 3-1.

The opening quarter of the non-conference matchup saw the two sides evenly matched, with Eastern Nazarene tallying just one more point than the Colonels in the first ten minutes. A pair of threes by Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) along with additional successful shots from beyond the arc by Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.), Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.), Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.), and Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) granted the Colonels a 25-point first quarter. 

The Colonels stayed close behind the visiting Lions in the second quarter until senior guard Kaitlynn Smith knocked down a corner three to grant her side a one-point lead with 2:42 left in the half. Eastern Nazarene would regain the lead on a Delaney Walker layup to push the Lions in front, 38-37. Curry sophomore guard Kylie McCarthy would then surge forth on a fast break to grant the Colonels a 39-38 lead with under a minute remaining until halftime. An Alondra Jimenez three with 11 seconds swung the pendulum in favor of the Eastern Nazarene Lions, heading into the halftime break leading 41-39. 

The Colonels quickly responded to the visiting Lions at the start of the second half as freshman guard Lauren Dunn knocked down a three to get the Colonels back in the action. Six points from Curry's Kristyanna Remillard through the third quarter along with a shot from beyond the arc by Kylie McCarthy kept the Colonels close behind the Lions as they headed into the final quarter of play; Eastern Nazarene leading 59-54.

Two quick layups from Curry's Remillard brought the Colonels within one point of the visitors with eight minutes remaining in regulation. The visiting Lions tallied 19 points in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory at Katz Gymnasium by a final score of 78-68.

Curry College was led by senior forward Kristyanna Remillard (20 points, 6 rebounds), Kylie McCarthy (13 points, 3 assists, 10 rebounds), and Lauren Dunn (17 points, 5 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Saturday as they host non-conference opponent Elms College at 1 PM.
