Women’s Basketball Outlasts Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, NH - Curry College Women's Basketball defeated non-conference opponent Colby-Sawyer on the road Saturday afternoon. 

With the win on the road, the Colonels improve to 3-0 overall this season.

The opening quarter saw a dominant Chargers side, outscoring the Colonels 10-1 through the first 4:27. The Colonels would fight back in the latter portion of the opening quarter as freshman forward Ellery Campbell (Rockland, Mass.) tallied a pair of jumpers along with a shot from the field by Kylie McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) to send the two sides into the quarter-break tied 13-13.

The Colonels held their momentum heading into the second quarter, taking off on a 14-2 run to start the period. Curry's Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) tallied nine points in the second quarter for the Colonels. A layup and a three from the hosts late in the quarter sent the two sides into the halftime break with Curry leading just 29-27.

Colby-Sawyer found their groove coming out of the halftime break, outscoring the Colonels 13-9.

The Colonels marked the first basket of the final quarter, as sophomore guard Kylie McCarthy notched a three to get the ball rolling for Curry. With just over four minutes remaining, senior forward Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) granted her side a 49-46 lead on a three-pointer. An Eliza Mitchell free-throw gave the hosting Chargers a 56-55 lead with 30 seconds on the clock. 

In the final moments of the quarter, Curry's Lauren Dunn flew down the court to knock down the game-winning layup, narrowly defeating the Colby-Sawyer Chargers by a final score of 57-56. 

The Colonels were led by senior forward Kathryn Dunn (15 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds), Kylie McCarthy (10 points, 3 assists, 10 rebounds), and Lauren Dunn (10 points, 3 rebounds).

The Colonels return to the court Thursday as they host non-conference opponent Eastern Nazarene at 5:30 PM.
