Colonels Stopped Short by Seahawks

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Women's Basketball team was defeated by conference opponent Salve Regina at home Monday evening by a final score of 70-51.

With the loss at Katz Gymnasium, the Colonels fall to 3-20 on the season and 0-16 in the conference. With the win on the road, Salve Regina improves to 10-12 overall and 9-7 in the CCC.

The opening quarter was very much in the favor of the visiting Seahawks. A 23-9 lead through the first ten minutes gave Salve a comfortable lead heading into the second period of play. Salve was led by their two forwards in the opening quarter; Megan Henaghan and Ashley Rourke combined for 11. 

The Colonels got in a groove midway through the second quarter, Kathryn Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) tallying two threes. The Colonels would outscore the Seahawks 13-11 in the second quarter, heading into half trailing by 12. 

Both sides came out of the half with intensity, keeping the contest close. Curry's Dunn saw two more shots drop from beyond the arc as Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) went 4-4 from the line and recorded a shot from the field as well. Salve's 19 points to Curry's 17 allowed the visitors to hold the lead entering the final quarter of regulation. 

Curry's Lily Gray marked eight points with two threes in the final quarter to no avail. The visiting Seahawks continued their consistent scoring while holding off the Colonel's attacking efforts. The Salve Regina Seahawks would take the contest by a final score of 70-51.

The Seahawks were led by Megan Henaghan (16 pts, 7 reb, 5 ast), Ashley Rourke (11 pts, 7 reb), and Morgan Shuey (11 pts, 7 reb, 6 ast). 

The Colonels were led by Kathryn Dunn (20 pts, 13 reb), Kristyanna Remillard (11 pts, 7 reb), and Lily Gray (10 pts, 8 reb). 

Curry gets back out on the court Wednesday as they host Wentworth at 5:30 PM at Katz Gymnasium.
