Suffolk Rallies Late to Clip Women's Basketball

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team lost a 72-59 contest to Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium.

Jenni-Rose DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass.) finished the contest with a game-high 17 points to lead four starters in double figures. DiCecco also added a game-high 16 rebounds. Natalie Fraioli (Sutton, Mass.) added 15 points, five boards, three assists, three steals and a block. Allie Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) chipped in 14 points, seven caroms, and three assists while Gabriella DeComo (Portsmouth, R.I.) pitched in 11 points, three rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

Kristyanna Remillard (Abington, Mass.) led the way for Curry with 12 points and two rebounds off the bench. Kaitlynn Smith (Hull, Mass.) tallied 11 points, five rebounds, and an assist while Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.) and Kirsten Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass.) added 10 points apiece.

An 11-4 start put Suffolk ahead after the opening three minutes of play. The lead hit double digits after a layup by Fraioli, but the Colonels cut it to six after a jumper and three-pointer by Remillard. The Rams would lead 17-9 after the first quarter.

The Colonels responded in the second, outscoring Suffolk 22-10 to take a 31-27 advantage into the intermission.

The Rams got back on track in the third. The Colonels got on the board first to stretch the lead to six (33-27). Suffolk came right back with an 8-0 run to make it 36-33 with 6:39 left.

On the next possession, Lillian Gray (Brooksville, Maine) converted a triple to even the score at 36. The Rams came back with five straight points and eventually their lead 11, 54-43 at the end of three quarters.

The teams traded baskets to open the final frame until Curry began to chip away at the deficit, cutting it to a one possession game, 59-56, with 5:04 left. Suffolk had the answer once again, going on a 13-3 run that spanned the rest of regulation to sink the Colonels in the 72-59 final.

Curry (0-4 overall) will travel to Beverly, Mass. to take on Endicott College on Friday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m.
