Women's Basketball Falls 85-42 to Host Smith College on the Opening Day of the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Curry College Women's Basketball Team fell at non-conference opponent Smith College, 85-42, on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both schools. The game was a first-round contest in Smith's Tyler Tip-Off Tournament.

The Colonels were led by graduate student Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) with a game-high 14 points. Freshman Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with nine points. Senior Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) paced Curry on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Curry shot just 26.3% (15-for-57) from the floor while the Pioneers connected on 47.1% (32-for-68) of their shots.

The Colonels will play Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the tournament's consolation game.
