Women's Basketball Tripped Up by Visiting Endicott, 74-58, in CCC Action

MILTON, Mass. - Curry fell to visiting Endicott College, 74-58, in Coast Commonwealth Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Gulls improve to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while the Colonels fall to 7-5 in season and 4-2 in CCC play.

Curry opened the first half on a 5-0 run, but Endicott immediately responded with 13 straight points to take an early edge (13-5) with 14:29 on the clock. The Gulls maintained their lead until late in the first frame when senior Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) sank a three-pointer, giving the Colonels a two point advantage (27-25) with 4:11 remaining until halftime.

With 1:53 left in the first period, junior Katelyn Wright (Sudbury, Mass.) converted on a shot from beyond the arc to give Endicott a 30-27 lead it would never relinquish. The Gulls went on to hold a four-point (33-29) lead at intermission.

Curry trimmed the lead to three (41-38) after sophomore Kerry White (Windham, N.H.) made a layup with 15:56 left in regulation. Endicott slowly pulled away, claiming its largest lead of the game (71-49) with three minutes remaining after sophomore Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) sank a three-pointer. The Colonels outscored the Gulls 9-3 over the remainder of the game, accounting for the 74-58 final.

The Gulls were led by senior Samantha Crough (Cohasset, Mass.) with team-bests in points (17) and rebounds (9). Classmate Julie Manning (Hull, Mass.) and Cuddy scored 15 points apiece, while Wright (Sudbury, Mass.) added 14 points.

Junior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) led the Colonels with a game-high 19 points and also recorded a team-best eight rebounds. Classmate Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) chipped in with eight points.

Both teams return to CCC action on Wednesday, as Endicott hosts visiting rival Nichols College for a 7:30 p.m. contest, while Curry travels to Roger Williams for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
